Minnesota’s First Family of Music
For generations, The Petersons — widely known as Minnesota’s First Family of Music — have been an extraordinary presence in the Minnesota music community and far beyond.
Musicians, vocalists, composers, arrangers and producers, members of the Peterson family have built careers spanning jazz, R&B, funk, rock and pop, performing and recording locally, nationally and internationally for decades.
Collectively, members of the family have performed, toured or recorded with an extraordinary roster of artists including Prince, Bob Dylan, Steve Miller, The Time, Kenny Loggins, Michael Bolton, David Sanborn, Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac and many others.
While their individual careers have taken them to stages and studios around the world, music has always brought the Petersons back together. Their family performances throughout the Twin Cities have become a beloved Minnesota tradition, with their annual holiday concerts in particular drawing generations of fans and families year after year.
On November 1, 2019, The Petersons were inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in New Ulm, Minnesota — an honor recognizing the family’s remarkable collective contribution to the state’s musical legacy. Their induction joined a Minnesota musical history that includes Peterson family matriarch Jeanne Arland Peterson, along with legendary Minnesota artists including Judy Garland, Bob Dylan and Prince.
The Peterson legacy continues today through multiple generations of performers, writers, producers and musicians — each with an individual voice, but connected by the musicianship, collaboration and love of music that have defined the family for decades.
The Petersons are Minnesota’s First Family of Music — a living musical legacy that continues to evolve, perform and inspire.

Minnesota's "First Family of Music" releases acompilation called "Legacy." It includes songs from each family member, including previously unreleased tracks as well.
